Class Descriptions
Vinyasa Flow Yoga
Vinyasa Flow Yoga is a yoga practice designed to improve strength, flexibility and balance through flowing yoga poses. Listen to your body and customize your practice to suit your needs. Move at your own pace. Challenge yourself, but honor your limitations. Increase strength throughout your range of motion. Slow the body’s aging process and feel good! Appropriate for all levels.
Chair Yoga
Chair Yoga is suitable for people of all ages and abilities. Breathing and relaxation exercises are practiced in each class. Poses can be done sitting in the chair or standing. Modifications are explained for those with limitations.
Kundalini Yoga
Kundalini Yoga, blends breathing, movement, stretching, meditation, chanting and the science of sequence. A typical Kundalini Yoga class starts with a breathing exercise, followed by spinal warm-ups and stretching and then a special set called a Kriya. A Kriya is a poetic progression of exercises which work in concert to create a synergistic, multi-dimensional, exponential effect. One Kriya might focus on the de-toxing the liver, another on working through creative blocks, or mastering your moods. After doing a set, students relax on their backs for a few minutes. Class ends with some form of meditation. Whatever the focus, by the end of every class you will feel energized and relaxed, focused and expansive, all at the same time.
Meditation and Mantra
Learn the four components of meditation:
1. Mudra - a hand position in yoga
2. Mantra - a word, words or a phrase, usually from Sanskrit. It can be spoken, sung or repeated silently in the mind, depending on the meditation.
3. Pranayam - Breath, different breath techniques are used in different meditations.
4. Driste - focus or a focal point
Practice meditations in class and take them home with you to start and maintain your own meditation practice.
